Fans of Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me series are in for a surprise today: Mafi and publisher HarperCollins have renewed the series with a three-book arc! The series, which ended in 2014 with Ignite Me, will be revived in 2018 with the first of three new installments.
Mafi told Entertainment Weekly that the need to continue the Shatter Me series became apparent when she was re-reading her own books. She was delving back into Juliette’s universe when she realized that at the end of Ignite Me, Juliette’s story wasn’t over.
“I saw very clearly then what the next steps in her journey had to be,” she told EW. “And I was suddenly anxious to bring the world back to life.”
Mafi told EW that the newest installment of the series takes place just two weeks after the end of Ignite Me. Juliette is in for some heartache, Mafi said. “She has no idea what she’s gotten herself into.”
A small surprise for fans of the series will come in the form of dual POVs, Mafi told EW. “Readers who’ve read Warner’s novella, Destroy Me, will understand how distinct his voice is from Juliette’s, and how his perspective can provide a much-needed balance to Juliette’s interior world. It was really interesting — and, I think, critical to the book — to do a deep dive into their very different minds.”
Only one of the three upcoming books has a title: Restore Me. It’s expected to come out in March of 2018, and already has a summary on Goodreads!
