Authors like Philip Pullman ('His Dark Materials') are auctioning off the naming rights for characters in their books, signed copies, and more (for charity).

Authors for Grenfell Tower is allowing authors to pledge auction items like signed book sets, writing retreats, and even the naming rights to characters in future books!

But hurry — the bidding started on June 19, and ends June 27! This auction is based in the UK, but uses GBP only, so if you’re bidding from another country, make sure you bid in GBP! The winning bids go directly to the Red Cross, which benefits those affected by the Grenfell Tower Fire.

Authors are donating some really awesome items for avid readers (or even unpublished authors) to bid on! Some examples are below:

You could hold the naming rights to a character in someone’s published work!

Including, but not limited to, Philip Pullman — the author of the His Dark Materials series!

Pullman will allow the winner to name a character in his ‘The Book of Dust’ sequel, yet unnamed. Bid here!

There are offers for critiques, meetings with agents, and more:

Suzie Townsend, agent for authors like Elly Blake (Frostblood) and Cora Carmack (Roar), is offering up a query critique! Bid here!

Or, if you’re a little confused about the publishing world, get a quick lesson from Danuta Kean, who teaches (sold out) Guardian Masterclasses. Bid here!

Subscription packages:

You could get a subscription package worth up to £300! The Goldsboro Book of the Month Club sends out a monthly book that’s both enjoyable and which could become a collectible. Bid for a free years’ subscription here!

School events:

Writing retreats, for those who prefer solitude:

There are several writing retreats offered on the Authors for Grenfell Tower sit, including this five-day retreat to the Devon Coast! It’s all-inclusive, so you don’t even have to buy food, and you get a sea-view room with a king-sized bid (and writing desk!). If you don’t mind the Miniature Schnauzer living there, it’s a perfect retreat for you! Bid here!

Or, for those who don’t mind crowds, a trip to YALC:

If you’re interested in YALC — the UK’s Young Adult  Literature Convention — bid on this VIP YALC package! It includes two tickets, a VIP liaison to help you, priority queuing for autographs, priority seating at talks, YALC merch bag, and green room access! Bid here!

Bespoke children’s books:

Piers Torday, bestselling children’s author, is offering to make your child the subject of his next book! He’s offering a bid that gets better the more you bid — £1 per word, maximum of £500. Bid here!

Signed and personalized books from authors:

You could get a signed and personalized hardcover of Frostblood from Elly Blake herself! Bid here!

Karen M. McManus is also offering up a signed and annotated copy of One of Us Is Lying! This would include the author’s notes on characters, scenes, etc! Bid here!

Rainbow Rowell is joining in as well, with a signed copy of Kindred Spirits. Bid here!

You could get a complete set of the Red Queen series from Victoria Aveyard! The whole set would be signed and personalized, and there would even be a collector’s edition of Red Queen. Bid here!
