Most people either know of or have read the classic book Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen; however, this new take on the book is quite unique. Author James Gaynor has taken the beloved book and has summarized it in haiku in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in 61 Haiku (1,037 Syllables!). The book is written in a way that has the beginning paragraph of each chapter on the left side, and the haiku on the opposite side. The haiku correlating with the paragraphs written in the book are either witty and funny or summarize the section of the chapters in a concise manner.
As someone that has not read the original piece of work, I found understanding the story difficult in some areas, but easy in others. I would suggest anyone to read the book if they simply want an entertaining way to paraphrase each paragraph used from the original work; I would also suggest this book if you are looking for a quick read — it can be completed within an hour or two. On the other hand, I would not suggest reading the book of you want to have a complete understanding of the story.
Altogether, the book was an interesting take on Pride and Prejudice, and I might flip through it again.
