The April 2017 Book Releases We’re Most Hyped For

1. Spindle Fire by Lexa Hillyer

“And then everything changes, with a single drop of Aurora’s blood–and a sleep so deep it cannot be broken.”
Spindle Fire, an upcoming retelling of Sleeping Beauty, is set to release April 11th. The retelling is set in a world where Aurora has a half-sister, Isabelle, who has to find a way to wake Aurora up. Hillyer also writes about what Aurora finds when she falls into her slumber… and we’re so ready to hear about it.
Mark your calendar for this one if a “lush fantasy duology” is exactly what you’re looking for this April.

2. Red Sister by Mark Lawrence

A sisterhood of women trained and honed to be killers? A girl “falsely accused of murder” but “guilty of worse”? Sign us the frick up for Red Sister by Mark Lawrence. We’re hoping that Lawrence won’t fall into the trap of writing a one-dimensional female heroine whose only real trait is her ability to kill people. If we’re going by the summary, though, we’ll be snapping this book up as soon as it’s released on April 4th.

3. Literally by Lucy Keating

Literally, Literally book, ya books, new ya releases, books, april book releases, april books,
Literally follows Annabelle, a heroine just like any other… until she realizes that her story is being written for her. Lucy Keating will be releasing this meta-tastic book on April 11th, so mark your calendars if you want to see how Annabelle and Keating interact in Literally. You’re welcome for not making any “literally” puns, by the way. It took a lot of self-control.

4. Definitions of Indefinable Things by Whitney Taylor

Three teens’ lives intersect in Definitions of Indefinable Things by Whitney Taylor.
Reggie is described as dealing with the “Three Stages of Depression,” and is battling with her feelings toward a certain someone named… Snake. Snake, whose ex-girlfriend is also pregnant. Sounds just drama-filled enough.
This YA contemporary book comes out April 4th.

5. Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray

Defy the Stars, Defy the Stars book., ya books, new ya releases, books, april book releases, april books,
“Teen soldier from the planet Genesis” was where this summary got interesting. It just keeps taking turns though, with the main character eventually being stranded on a spaceship with a “mech prototype” who should be her enemy, but “may be more than a machine.” We’re not sure if there’s going to be some human-on-robot action in Defy the Stars, or if main character Naomi will just learn how sophisticated Artificial Intelligence is in her universe. We’ll see on April 4th!
